The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021(ARPA) addressed the negative economic impacts resulting from COVID-19. The town allocated $1 million of this federal funding to bolster the vital work of local nonprofits still recovering from the pandemic. The Guilford Foundation was entrusted to lead the process.

Community Leadership in Action.
As a respected resource with deep community roots and a rigorous grantmaking process, TGF led the ARPA funding allocation process from start to finish.

TGF is one of the trusted organizations on the Shoreline in assessing the needs of nonprofits in Guilford,” remarked Guilford First Selectman Matt Hoey. “They were instrumental in getting Covid relief to individuals and families. In my mind’s eye, there was no better choice.”

TGF’s arduous review process adopted a unique approach by focusing on established priorities such as basic needs, youth development, and mental health awareness. The process attracted many new grant applications and facilitated important large projects, including enabling personnel hiring and revitalizing programming and marketing efforts.

“The $1 million allocation is an investment in the well-being and prosperity of our town,” noted TGF Executive Director Liza Janssen Petra. “By supporting local nonprofits, we are advancing the resilience and strength of our community.”
