The slate of officers was also announced and includes Chair Alex Sulpasso, Vice Chair John Hyman, Treasurer Kristin Vander Wiede, and Secretary Ashley Fernandez.

“The Guilford Foundation’s board is the driving force behind our grantmaking, strategic direction, governance, and community leadership,” said Liza Janssen Petra, Executive Director of The Guilford Foundation. “To help advance our mission, we seek board members who bring diverse perspectives, a range of professional and volunteer experience, and, of course, a passion for our community.”

The board of directors governs the community foundation. It consists of 15 community volunteers who serve up to two three-year terms. All members participate in at least one of its five working committees: Executive, Finance, Community Investment, Development, or Nominating and Governance.

Wesley Cain is a member of the Finance Committee. As a partner at Carmody Torrance Sandak & Hennessey LLP, he focuses on estate planning, trust administration, closely held businesses, and tax-exempt organizations. He’s active in the community, serving on several boards, and provided pro bono legal advice to TGF before joining the Board. He grew up in Guilford and returned as an adult because he loves the small-town feel, sense of community, and natural beauty.

Nathan Scoggin is a member of the Community Investment Committee. He brings tremendous leadership experience through an extensive career as a healthcare-focused entrepreneur and investor. He is currently Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Icon Health, the nation’s first value-based musculoskeletal solution for commercial and Medicare health plans. Nathan and his wife Jen moved to Guilford, seeking a great place to raise their family. The town hasn’t disappointed. Along with their two children and dog, the family loves being on, in, or around the water.
