A lifelong Guilford resident, he discovered his love of jazz in the Adams Middle School and Guilford High School jazz ensembles. Intensive study in the school music programs, with local private instructors, and at summer music camps shaped him into a truly impressive multi-instrumentalist. Known throughout the local and regional music scene–performing with bands including Big Whig, The Science, What It Is, and Foxtrotter–Adam embodied the pure joy of live music and the friendships it fosters. His presence filled rooms, festivals, and hearts. Sadly, in 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, the world lost a radiant spirit whose music, joy, and generosity left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.

The Adam Reid Ives Fund for Musical Enrichment was created in December 2025 to help young people with a passion for music develop their skills and pursue more advanced study. The Guilford school system’s music program played a pivotal role in Adam’s growth as a musician. He frequently expressed appreciation and gratitude for the opportunities it afforded him and the deep, lasting friendships that it produced.

This fund exists to help Guilford students develop a similar path in life. This memorial scholarship supports a student in the Guilford Public Schools, selected by the Guilford Music Department faculty, to pursue musical enrichment through instrument purchase or rental, private lessons, summer music programs, and other opportunities that help young musicians grow.

In celebration of Adam’s memory, his family and friends are organizing a special concert on January 4, 2026 at Park City Music Hall in Bridgeport, with proceeds directed to the fund. Through music, friendship, and community, the spirit of Adam Reid Ives will continue to inspire future generations, ensuring his legacy endures.

His incredible group of friends will continue to hold concerts in honor of Adam to grow the fund and increase its impact.
