Riley Hickey Joins TGF Staff as Summer Intern
The Guilford Foundation has hired its first intern, Riley Hickey, a rising senior at Guilford High School. She is a member of the International Baccalaureate Program and a tri-sport varsity athlete (soccer, skiing, and track). In addition to volunteering with TGF, a big part of Riley’s summer is navigating the college process and working at Ashley’s Ice Cream in Guilford.
As a TGF intern, Riley will interact with the staff and work closely with Communications Specialist Pam Miller. She will learn the fundamentals of philanthropy, gain valuable experience executing marketing communications tactics, attend staff meetings, and help with the administration of the day-to-day back office.
Executive Director Liza Petra explained. “We’re excited to have an intern. Aside from Riley’s fresh perspective and an extra set of hands to the Foundation, we want to share our passion for community enrichment and hopefully inspire her to become a future philanthropist.”
As the Next Gen Youth Advisory Member for The Tyler Rigg Foundation, a nonprofit established for a family friend who tragically died in an automotive accident, Riley brings experience to the Foundation. Additionally, her grandmother, B. Joan Hickey, established a Guilford High School scholarship fund with The Guilford Foundation in memory of her grandfather Dennis Hickey, who passed away when she was eight. The fun Riley presents the scholarship award from the family charitable fund annually at the scholarship ceremony at the GHS.
Riley Hickey is enthusiastic about her new role, stating, “I wholeheartedly believe that this opportunity will benefit my learning and development as I gain experience in the field of giving. Through dedicating my time and effort to the internship, I look forward to working for a community foundation and helping TGF make a difference in our town.”
