Linda Nickerson Fund for Adolescent and Young Adult Mental Health
Linda Nickerson (1945-2026) dedicated her life to supporting the emotional well-being of young people. A lifelong advocate for mental health and human connection, she brought empathy, insight, and unwavering presence to all those she served.
For 26 years, Linda served as an Educational Psychologist at Daniel Hand High School, where her presence was a steady and trusted force for students, families, and colleagues. She continued her work through private practice along the shoreline for another 20 years, counseling adolescents and young adults with the same care and dedication.
Linda was regarded not only for her professional expertise, but for the depth of her listening, the clarity of her insight, and the genuine regard she extended to those in her care. Her influence reached far beyond individual interactions, creating a lasting ripple effect in the lives of those she supported.
As one former student and colleague shared, “Linda was one of the trusted professionals who helped me through painful adolescent years and inspired my passion for understanding others. The people I help today are part of that legacy, branches of the tree she helped plant.”
Family and community were central to Linda’s life. She raised her children, Sarah and Christian Conti, in Guilford and welcomed two granddaughters into her loving circle. For more than 50 years along the shoreline, she built lasting friendships with care and constancy. As a sought-after confidante, she offered guidance with thoughtfulness, conviction, and compassion. Her professional life was a natural extension of her inner orientation, a sustained and thoughtful commitment to the well-being of children and families.
The Linda Nickerson Fund for Adolescent and Young Adult Mental Health, established in her memory, reflects her life’s work and values. The Fund supports the mental health of Guilford youth ages 10 to 22, funding programs and organizations that provide care, guidance, and connection during critical years.
Through this field of interest fund, Linda’s legacy will continue to strengthen resources for young people, support those who care for them, and ensure more individuals have access to the understanding and support she offered throughout her life.
Annually, income will be distributed to local organizations and programs that align with its mission while preserving the principal to ensure lasting impact. The Linda Nickerson Fund for Adolescent and Young Adult Mental Health will continue to strengthen resources for young people, support those who care for them, and expand access to the understanding and compassion she offered throughout her life, for generations to come.
